Books for bites

We made a family trip to the library yesterday and checked out some new books for Jack to read. It's always very overwhelming at the library since there are so many books of varying levels in the Emerging Reader section. We really have to pull them, one by one, and read through them to see if they are appropriate or not. I know there must be an easier way so please suggest if you are a teacher or librarian! I don't know authors (even some Suess books are too high level) at this level. We're just needing a combination of sight words and words that can be sounded out fairly easily. It's harder than you think.

I try and keep if fun for Jack so I gave him Mike & Ikes to eat while he read to me (and Theo). It worked :)

Breakfast of champions

I treated the boys to powdered donuts this morning. It's a big treat here and they love it (of course). We're celebrating the LSU big win over Texas A&M. Geaux Tigers. Now..... on to cheer the Saints to victory.

Pilots

Aunt Jen gave Jack a toy helicopter for his birthday. He and Dave took it out soon thereafter and promptly got it stuck in a tree. The helicopter hasn't seen much action since then until today. Jack has a friend down the street who comes over a lot after school. He and Brian had so much fun with the helicopter today. They successfully flew it all over the front yard with only minor tree or roof delays :) Brian has really been a blessing for us. He's a couple of years older than Jack but is very kind and polite. Thanks Aunt Jen for the fun helicopter! Having our pine tree cut down in the front yard really helped the flight path!

Discovery Center

I took Theo to a local Children's Museum today and he had a blast! We were among only a handful of other people there so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Theo pretended to be a veterinarian and also loved hauling in fish and lobsters in a fishing boat. We broke for lunch and had a big ole table of kids and moms at a Mexican food restaurant :) We'll definitely have to go back soon!

Sentences

Jack's teacher requested that we have the kids write sentences each night and have them sound out words themselves for homework. Jack's been writing for a long time but we either spell it for him or he copies words we have written out. He came up with the sentences on his own and wrote them. He protested at first, especially for words he didn't know how to spell (soccer = sokkr) but he did so well. My heart swelled with pride.

New Phone

I crossed over to the dark side and got an iPhone for Christmas. I love this darn phone and even got a blinged out cover for it. I snapped these pictures today on my phone. I took Theo to a park and he played and played. He was so happy and just ran around like a little wild man. I took him to have sushi for lunch and he gobbled up almost 2 rolls. He ate way more than I did!! I brought my left overs and what little Theo left over home for Jack to have for dinner. My boys and I sure love sushi.

Jack got a certificate for a contest he entered last year (so weird to write that!) at school. The theme was "Together We Can" and he wrote about learning how to read and write so he could fulfill his dream of becoming an author. Well now he wants to become a Lego construction artist/designer. Ha ha. Theo wants to be an ice cream control taste tester. I'm with Theo :)

Hurricane Theo

Theo thought I was just taking pictures of his cute self....... and I was, partly. But I was also showing the absolute mess he and his brother have created in the two short days they've been back home (They went to Gigi and Dada's house for a couple of days). Dave and I used that time to take down all of the Christmas decorations and put our house back in order. Silly us!
