Megan's party

Jack's friend from school, Megan, had her 4th birthday party on Sunday. (Megan ADORES Jack and runs around the playground trying to give Jack hugs. He, in turn, tells me that he doesn't like girls and he loves boys, meaning his friends). I was a little unsure if Jack was ok to go since that morning he was running a low-grade fever.... but we went late and I made him take plenty of water breaks. He was FINE! He ran around the gymnastics place with all of his friends from school and no one even knew that boy had surgery a mere 5 days before. He ate chips, cake and ice cream (of course) and was fine the rest of the day. Guess who went back to school today. Jack! Better than sitting around the house thinking about how much his throat hurts.

Easter baskets

After much deliberation (one year), this is what we've decided to do with the boys' easter baskets. My childhood basket is almost identical to the boys', in fact, I had their baskets specially made last year. My basket has a cute painted bunny face and my name painted on the front. I intended to paint a bunny face on these baskets but was told my the male voice of my house that "that's too girly". Man, Easter is just a girly holiday.... pastel colors, cute bunnies, chicks. I decided to be very plain and only put the boys' names and a wooden tail. Pretty simple, maybe even boring. But masculine? Maybe more so than my childhood basket. :)

Quail Creek Easter party

Our subdivision had an Easter party this morning. We've been shut-ins all week long and were determined to go get out of the house. We put the boys in their Easter clothes and dug out the Easter baskets. We've got some work to do on their baskets so Jack used his old basket from 2 years ago.

Jack did the neatest Easter craft....... the pan had marbles that would move around all of the paint that he dribbled on top of his paper Easter egg. It was the coolest thing I had ever seen! Jack also got an egg tattoo on his hand. Theo pretty much trotted around bumming candy off of his dad. Jack was happy to sit with the Easter bunny (remember last year he would not go near him) and Theo was the one who freaked out. Maybe next year both boys will be in to it.

Next the boys moved on to hunting eggs. Theo's age group was in the tennis courts. He collected a whopping 3 eggs. Once he figured out that they opened and had candy inside, it was all over. Jack's age group hunted on the soccer field. He did much better than his brother. He ran around a little bit but was very sad when he couldn't eat any of his candy. Maybe in a few more days.

Getting out

My friend Betsy came over today with her daughter Juliet. Juliet is Theo's main lady-friend. I've been going crazy inside my house with two unhappy kids (Theo is still cutting a mouth full of molars and eye teeth) so we made the kids play in the backyard. The weather was pretty nice out this morning but of course now it's pouring rain. I love April. Here are some cute pics of the kids actually happy for 2 seconds.

Ice cream for breakfast

Last night was pretty rough. Jack was doing great initially and I thought maybe that's just how kids pulled through things..... easy! But then the anesthesia wore off and the full pain hit. He was miserable and was refusing to swallow anything. Then we did get some liquids in him and he threw up. Poor guy. He crawled in our bed at 4 pm and pretty much slept all the way through until 6 am. I set my alarm for every 4 hours and gave him his pain medicine. We got him up at midnight and made him drink some hot chocolate (thanks for that idea Michelle!!!!). He drank about 1/3 of it and then went back to bed. This morning I can tell he's feeling a little better. He had ice cream for breakfast........ so that's a good sign!!

Post-surgery

Jack did amazingly well today! They were about 30 minutes late taking him in to the OR, but other than that, everything went as planned. The operation itself took about 45 minutes and then Jack was in recovery for about 2 hours. He woke up from anesthesia really agitated (normal) and couldn't be calmed down, so the recovery nurse gave him a small dose of a sedative. He was sleeping when we went back to recovery and he slept for another hour while we were there. He woke up and was fine! The nurse gave him some juice and a popcicle. He's home now watching tv and has had two bowls of jello, a cup of pudding and lots of juice. Go Jack!!!

Goodbye Frog

Jack is having his "frog" taken out tomorrow along with his tonsils and adenoids. He doesn't know what all of this entails, but we want him to not have any anxiety over it, so we threw him a "goodbye frog" party. There was pizza and cake....... which does read "goodbye frog" in skittles. The ice cream will come later :) He's set to go into surgery at 9 am. It will take about 45 minutes and he'll spend another hour or so in recovery. My awesome friend Betsy will be watching Theo for us so Dave can be there to comfort Jack when he comes out of anesthesia. I went to the store today and loaded up on all flavors of ice cream, jello and pudding. I also got tons of stuff to make smoothies for our patient. Here is an up close and personal look at the enormous tonsils. They nearly touch when he is not saying "ahh" like in the picture.
