Kind Acts

I returned home after Dada's funeral to a plethora of kindness. My friend Betsy had washed and folded laundry that I had neglected while I was away. She made us a huge dinner that we were able to feast on for weeks. Friends from Boston, New York, and New Jersey sent the beautiful lilac floral arrangement. It was breathtaking, truly. Jen sent a care package of magazines, toys for the kids, candy, and other favorites. I felt the love when I walked in that door. It somehow sustained me and allowed me to carry on. I can't even count all of the cards that friends and family sent us. Each one is still on our mantle weeks later. I will make them into a blessing ring and treasure them forever.

Reception

So many people came to Glynn's funeral service last Thursday. The church hosted a reception following the burial in their activities center. Dave's good friend, Joseph, drove in from Ft. Worth with his wife and two daughters. Charlotte and Juliet just loved playing with Jack and Theo, and especially loved it when Jack read to them. We were so touched by the friends who came from far and wide to honor Glynn.

Close friends and family came to the house after the reception. Dave handed out some of Glynn's hats (he always wore hats) as we sat around and recalled funny memories of Glynn. My mom was there and really helped me by entertaining the boys.

Glynn Hadskey July 13, 1936 - October 8, 2012

A native of Oldenburg, Mississippi and resident of Baton Rouge, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 8, 2012 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was born July 13, 1936 to the late Henry C. Hadskey and Mary Lehmann Hadskey. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Dolores Jones Hadskey; 2 sons, Glynn E. Hadskey, Jr. and David M. Hadskey; 3 sisters, Elizabeth High, Esther Nettles and Wyolene Rainer; a brother, Robert Hadskey; 3 grandsons whom he treasured, Jackson Neil, Theodore Reid and Rowan Meriwether. He was preceded in death by his parents; eldest son, Neal Edward Hadskey; eldest brother, William Hadskey. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday, Oct. 10, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visiting resumes on Thursday at the Broadmoor Presbyterian Church from 9:30 a.m. until the religious service at 10:30 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Hawley Wolfe. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. He was the founder of Short Line Sales, Incorporated, one of the largest farm equipment representative firms in the mid-south. He was a Masters graduate of LSU and a wearer of many hats, including instrument rated private pilot, real estate developer and former Illinois Central Railroad engineer. He was a member of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church and the Civil Air Patrol and member and Past President of AIMRA. He and Dolores loved to travel and had experienced most of the world. He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed. We lost our beloved "Dada" on Monday morning when his heart went into failure.  The staff at OLOL Hospital tried for over two hours to resusitate him without success.  His passing has left a huge hole in our hearts. Please keep our family and the extended family members and friends in your prayers.  We're all hurting and missing Glynn so very much.

Ushering in October

I have the house festively decorated for Halloween. Every year I pick up items on major sale, like these super cute place mats. This year I scored these adorable towels for the boys :-). I made cookies from scratch today. Here the boys are before Theo spilled his milk all over the floor and shut down the fun.

Beads of Courage

I made a quick trip over to Houston for the weekend to attend the Beads of Courage fundraiser, featuring my sweet niece, Corinne. Corinne was the honored guest at the event, and boy did she charm the patrons!

Each person made a bracelet with beads donated from local vendors and artists. I made a green/purple/gold/yellow bracelet in honor of Baylor and LSU. I also purchased necklaces for the boys to make so they'll have necklaces honoring Corinne's beads of courage.

Jen and Brian had tons of neighbors show up in support. I enjoyed meeting their friends , as well as hearing the founder of BOC speak about the foundation. Brian also gave a brief speech about what Corinne endured during her 2 1/2 years of treatment.

I can't leave out my mode of transportation over to Houston. I saw a feature about Megabus on a tv show and was intrigued. I loved that my roundtrip fare was less than a tank of gas!

Birthdays galore!

Jack celebrated his friend Zack's birthday last night at Chuckle E Cheese. The gaggle of 12 boys was insane!! I wish I had that much energy. Ha ha.

Theo went to Molly's birthday party today at Culinary Kids. They made their own pink crust pizzas and decorated Minnie Mouse cupcakes. Super cute!

Thursday Night Lights

Jack has two baseball games a week, plus a practice, so we're out on the fields a ton during the week. His team, the Dodgers, is a cohesive team. The boys all get along well and cheer each other on like crazy during their turns at bat. It's super sweet to watch.

I've been taking the boys to a park on Fridays after school to let them burn off energy. They definitely earn some down time after the long week of school. Here they are playing with Erik and Blake.
