Smithsonian and WW II Monument

Our little group (minus bridesmaid Shannon) took the Metro into DC the morning of the wedding. It was fast and furious, but we managed to see a ton of sights on our list.

We saw the monument, though could not go to the top since it was severely damaged in the earthquake last year. Next we popped in to the Smithsonian museum and saw the First Lady dresses, Julia Child's kitchen, the ruby red slippers, and Kermit!!

Lastly, we walked over to the WW II monument. My grandmother and I always talked of visiting the monument together so going without her was bittersweet. I did take a ton of pictures to share with her. I just recently finished reading Unbroken for book club and truly soaked in the significance of the monument.

Hillary and Eric's Wedding

I traveled to Washington DC this past weekend for my sorority sister Hillary's,  wedding. She and I spent spring break together my senior year in college up in DC. Hillary showed me all around, took me on a tour of the White House, and drive me past all of the monuments. It's a trip that I'll always remember! Here I am 14 years later back in the Capitol for her wedding. Other KDs came in for the wedding as well ans we all had a great time together.

We stayed in old town Alexandria, making it super convenient to use the Metro and get into DC. The reception was held at Ft. Myers Air Force base at Arlington National Cemetery (Hillary's father is a retired colonel in the Air Force). The ballroom was breathtaking and the theme of navy and white was incorporated well. All us girls had such fun dancing at the reception and hanging out with Hillary's family again.

My first day

I volunteered at carline at school and loved seeing the boys' classmates on their first day. After that, I joined a few friends for lunch to celebrate the first day back to school. I was so productive after lunch since I could dash into places by myself :-)

First Day!

Jack and Theo had to be pried out of bed this morning, of course they were sleeping soundly on a school day, and guided through putting on their uniforms. They ate a nice, big breakfast and posed for their pictures. I used the fabric banner that I made in their school colors as the backdrop. Theo has a new, bigger backpack now that he's a big Pre-K boy and will be bringing home lots of work.

They were all smiles walking in together. I had them take in little treats to their teachers so they could practice introducing themselves. I hope my boys have a great first day!

PK and 2nd grade classrooms

Tonight I went to Open House for Jack's teacher and I LOVED her. He's going to have a great year. The room is decorated like a racetrack and Jack sits in the middle in the back, right next to his buddy, Izabella.

Theo's classroom is decorated to be a giant cruise ship. He sits at the yellow table closest to his teacher's desk. He's going to learn an amazing amount.

Pool Party

We hosted a back to school pool party with another school family yesterday at the same pool that the boys swam at for swim team. Tons of friends came and it was really neat for all of the moms to meet each other. We served up tons of ice cream sundaes with a variety of toppings, and also had another go round with ice cream cones! The boys said the ice cream was their favorite part :-)  It was a wonderful way to celebrate the last day of summer. I think we might have a new tradition!!

I Can See!!!

I let Theo's hair grow out all summer long and well, long it did get. That doesn't jive with his school so the hair had to be trimmed back. I took him to my salon (just like last year) and Ms. Barbie did a great job. His hair is super thick. Just look at that pile on the floor!!!
