Hoppin' good time

We took the boys to see an afternoon showing of Hop yesterday. Jack loved it (he is somewhat of a movie snob and often has to be dragged to the movie theater) and Theo was a flipping fish who couldn't sit still. We went to Texas Roadhouse for an early dinner and had one of those dinners where we wondered why we insisted on torturing ourselves. Neither kid really ate much and were just squirmy. But it was still a nice, family evening. And we went to Academy and got baseball stuff. Last soccer game is in a few hours and then we're on to baseball for 2 months :)

Play Doh!

For those that know me well, you know Play Doh is not welcome in my house. Little pills of it get stuck all in the grout in the kitchen and it's just more mess than I care to deal with! So Theo was thrilled when we went to a friend's house today and found a play doh wonderland :) And that's what friends are for!

Mind blowing Science

Aunt Jen sent Jack this kit for his birthday and we've been a regular old science lab lately. It's pretty cool since everything you need for the experiments is included in the kit. We watched water "dance" the other night and then made "goo" tonight. Theo would not touch the goo to get the full experience but Jack was all about it! Just cornstarch and water :)

We've also been doing tons of Jumpstart Kindergarten! again on the computer. Trying to get Theo in on it but he's content to just sit and watch Jack do it. Naturally.

Chicks, man!

I got the jump drive with some cute chick pics today. I have the MOST fabulous photographer. She snapped these precious pictures of the boys with 3 day old chicks. They are sporting their Easter duds and I think they look mighty handsome :) I love coordinating them! I hope they let me do that for years to come.

I think the close up of Theo makes him look years older (sniff). Jack adored the chicks and could have played with them all day long. Theo took longer to warm up to them but was just as enamored by the end of our session. That isn't to say that the chicks weren't not so gently dropped :p

Sunday morning

Our morning started bright and early with donuts delivered by our neighbor (part of a baseball fundraiser). The sugar rush is still going strong, hours later. Gosh.

Then we headed to church and let the boys "touch the fountain", a tradition dating back to when Theo was just a little fella and going to Mother's Day Out at church. We had to always stop and touch the fountain :) I made sure to take a picture of them in front of some flowers near the fountain. I tried at least.

Jack's Sunday school learned about Daniel today. He read this entire page to us in the car. His reading has really taken off since starting his new school.

After school treat

Jack has gotten straight 100's on his spelling tests at his new school! I really see some spelling bee potential here. He's a visual learning for sure so I write his spelling words in a notebook in bold, black marker. He usually just stares at the words a couple of times and generally has them down pat. Occasionally one or two words will hang him up and I make him write those particular words five times each. I often think ahead to when I'll be doing this with Theo and how he'll learn and do...... and then I get scared! Jack let's me off easy :)

We had to kill time after school yesterday before going to the dentist on that side of town so we headed to ChickFila. They boys played a bit and then shared an ice cream. Shared being used loosely. Look closely at who is holding the ice cream and who is having to reach to get some. Ha ha!!! Luckily we got a clean bill of health all around (I went Monday) and did learn that Theo will be visiting an orthodontist in about 4 years due to crowding. He let them take bite wing and panoramic x-rays. They were super impressed by how laid back he was. We found out that Jack has wiggly bottom teeth and 6 year molars that are "right there". The Tooth Fairy might need to be on guard!

Our neighbor, Mr. Don, was out cutting his grass yesterday and he and Jack visited for a while. Mr. Don and Mrs. Cheryl are like the grandparents next door and we just LOVE them. I love that no matter what Mr. Don always stops whatever he is doing and makes time to visit with us and shows the kids something new (like how to cast a fishing pole). We are so blessed to have them as neighbors. :)

Time and tying shoes

Jack is learning how to tell time in school this week. This is a tough concept to grasp, especially when you venture past just half hour, etc. We'll get there I suppose!

Jack mastered tying shoes this weekend after a long instruction session with Gigi. I thought he'd never learn (Dave and I both showed him time and time again and finally switched back to velcro!). He's so proud of himself and practices constantly on his soccer cleats. This sure makes my life a little easier!
